Finger Lakes Chapter, ACBS 29th
Annual Boat Show July 27, 28 & 29, 2007
The Finger Lakes Chapter invites you to be part of its 29th
Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show to be held in the village of Skaneateles, NY
over the weekend of July 27-29, 2007. The
Show’s setting is along the village pier and in a lakeside park at the north
end of 16-mile-long Skaneateles Lake, one of the most beautiful in upstate New
York’s Finger Lakes Region. The show is
a judged event with unique awards in several categories following the
newly-adopted ACBS Two-track Judging System.
Excellent docks can accommodate 44 boats along the village
pier, and another 40 boats can be easily located in the adjacent park as land-displays.
Its tree-shaded lawns provide a perfect setting for land displays of
all types of watercraft, nautical exhibits and even a woodie automobile or
two! Between the pier and the park is a convenient
walk-in ramp suitable for launch and retrieval of small craft.
Two miles down the lake is an excellent state launch (no
launch fee) where FLC crews standby to assist with the launch and reloading
process. A hallmark of the Skaneateles
Boat Show is complimentary valet parking of trailers and tow vehicles so that
after launching, exhibitors need only concern themselves with a pleasant boat
ride up the lake to the Boat Show venue.
Similarly, arrangements can be made for tow-vehicles and trailers to be
taken to the launch for reloading of boats after the Boat Show.
Skaneateles is a picturesque and historic village founded
in 1833. Today, it boasts excellent
restaurants, enticing boutiques and shops, and beautifully restored and maintained
homes on treelined streets. Concerts
in the park and narrated riding tours of the village are also part of this
festive weekend.
All that’s needed to complete the picture is your participation!
We hope you’ll plan to make the trip to Skaneateles and enjoy a special
weekend with many friends in the antique boating community.

Renewed
Emphasis on Preservation
As noted above, antique and classic boats
will be judged according to the ACBS Two-track Judging System. Wooden boats being judged in the Preserved
category should be high-scoring boats with at least 60% of the original deck
and topside wood remaining (bottom not included). Restored boats are those with less. Clearly, judgment must be used to determine
in which category a boat should be judged.
The judges, using information supplied by the owner and the ACBS Judging
Guidelines, will ultimately confirm whether a boat should be judged in the
Preserved or Restored category.
Directions
to Skaneateles
The Village of Skaneateles is located on
US Route 20, five miles east of Auburn, NY and about 16 miles southwest of
Syracuse, NY at the northern end of Skaneateles Lake.
From the East or West:
Take Thruway (I-90) to Exit 40, at Weedsport, NY then Route 34 south to
Auburn, then Route 20 east to Skaneateles.
From the North or South:
Take I-81 to Exit 15 at Lafayette, NY then Route 20 west to Skaneateles.
The Boat Show is located in Clift Park,
immediately west of the Skaneateles downtown business district and across the
street from the Sherwood Inn.
Exhibitors who plan to show their boats as
in-the-water displays should proceed directly to the launch ramp, and register after
arrival by boat at the Boat Show Site.
Exhibitors who plan to show their
boats/motors/engines in a land display should enter Clift Park at its western
end, at the intersection of West Genesee St. and West Lake St.
Traffic
and the Friday Night Band Concert
If you are planning to drive through
downtown Skaneateles on Friday, July 27th, you are urged to do so as
early in the evening as possible to avoid local traffic and pedestrian
congestion associated with the Friday evening Band Concert in Clift Park which
begins at 7:30 pm.
Directions
to the Launch Ramp
An excellent New York State double
launch ramp is located two miles south of the Boat Show Site on the west side
of the lake. To get there from the Boat
Show Site, drive about a half mile west on US Route 20, turn south at the
blinking traffic light at the intersection of Route 41A, and proceed about two
miles. Special signage will assist in
identifying the road from Route 41A down to the launch ramp. There is no launch fee.
Launch
Assistance and Valet Parking
At the launch ramp Town Constable Bruce
Silvers will be on duty to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, and an
experienced launch crew will be available to assist with the launching process
during the following times: Friday 1:00 to
5:00pm Saturday 7:30 to 9:30am
Free valet parking of tow vehicles and boat
trailers is available at the launch ramp.
When taking advantage of this service, please have a second set of vehicle
keys to keep with you in case the set remaining with the vehicle is
inadvertently misplaced or accidentally locked in your vehicle.
Commercial
Transactions & “For Sale” Signs
A local ordinance prohibits commercial
(for profit) transactions in Clift Park.
Any such transactions must be conducted away from the park area.
The use of “For
Sale” signs on boats, motors or displays in the Boat Show area is similarly prohibited. However, a bulletin board will be available
at the Registration Tent where items for sale may be posted.
Friday
Night Barbeque
Friday night’s fare will be a typical
southern barbeque consisting of barbequed chicken and pork, grilled sausage,
salt potatoes, corn on the cob, coleslaw, rolls and dessert. It will be available from 6:00 to 7:30pm in
the banquet tent on the west lawn of the Sherwood Inn directly across the
street from the Boat Show Site. A cash
bar will also be available.
Overnight
Security
Overnight security will be provided by
two roving security guards who will continuously monitor the status of all displays
and area weather reports. If it should
be necessary to contact owners, a telephone calling-tree will be put into
effect. To support this eventuality,
please be sure to include your lodging location and telephone number on the
Registration Form. A list of lodgings,
locations, phone numbers and distance to the Boat Show Site is provided on the
last page of this invitation.
Saturday
Evening Banquet and Awards Presentations
A cash bar, steamed clams (available during
cocktail hour), and an elegant buffet dinner featuring prime rib and chicken
Francaise will be served at 7:00pm in the banquet tent on the west lawn of the
Sherwood Inn. Exhibitors, their guests,
Boat Show sponsors, local dignitaries and Finger Lakes Chapter members will be
in attendance. The buffet will include
a number of vegetarian dishes. However,
please advise of any special dietary needs.
Boat Show Awards will be presented following dinner.
Sunday
Brunch
A traditional full brunch with two custom-omelet
stations will be available from 8:00 to 11:00am in the banquet tent on the west
lawn of the Sherwood Inn. This is a
relaxing place to review a wonderful weekend with family and friends, to talk
about what is happening in the antique boating community, and to make plans for
next year.
Boat
Show Concludes Sunday at 3:00PM
Each year many visitors (spectators and
VIPs) attend the Boat Show on Sunday afternoon and are expecting to see the
full line-up of boats, etc., on display.
Therefore, all exhibitors are requested to leave their boats in the
water, and land displays intact, on Sunday afternoon until 3:00 pm when the
Boat Show officially closes. Everyone’s
adherence to this request will be greatly appreciated.
Reloading
Assistance
If assistance is needed in returning tow vehicles
and trailers to the launch ramp for reloading, please make the necessary
arrangements at the Registration Tent in the park before departing for the
ramp. Constable Bruce Silvers and reloading
crews will again be on duty on Sunday from 3:15 to 5:30pm to assist with
reloading after the Boat Show closes.
Boat

history/story of your boat considered for publication in the Boat Show Program,
please include same with your completed Registration and Reservation Forms as

accommodate all submissions.
